Farewell to the existing Social Group
Read 679 Times
After 20 years of working together and providing a varied range of social events for the Parish, the decision has been made for the existing social group to step down. This decision has not been taken lightly and has been discussed at our meetings for many months. However, with proposed and planned events being supported by increasingly fewer numbers, coupled with the sad fact that our Social group has also greatly reduced in number, with heavy hearts we feel the time is right for us to say goodbye!
Over the last 20 years we have enjoyed celebrating many events including:
- Parish 50 th Anniversary at St. Theresa's, Clergy Jubilees - 25th , 40th, 50th & 60th
- Quiz nights, Christmas and Easter Quizzes
- Dances including St. Patrick's, St. George's, and 40's & 80's nights
- Race nights, treasure hunts, concerts and cream teas with Corpus Christi band
- Wine tasting evenings and Pub nights
We have also provided refreshments for: Carol services, Mass for the sick, Parish meetings and last but certainly not least: The Annual Parish BBQ. Our main aim when we formed as a social group was to bring as many of our parishioners together to enjoy social activities as well as praying together, hopefully raising a little money for worthy causes along the way.
Any profits made from our celebrations went directly back to provide items such as the beautiful crucifix that can be seen on the front of the church tower, new railings and signage for the Parish centre, outside lighting for St. Theresa's church (pre becoming Blessed John Henry Newman parish), new fencing down the drive towards the parish centre and the glorious stained glass window that can be seen at the back of St. Theresa's church, as well as a host of many other things too numerous to mention. The Parish BBQ was instigated as a way of showing our gratitude to the Parish for supporting us at the social events we provided. Very sadly, therefore, the BBQ in June will be our final event.
Please come one last time and help us celebrate our Parish.
The Social Group.
