Kindergarten
The newly trained kindergarten teacher at Kilidu, Gertrude, grew up in this area and is pleased to return and now dedicate her life to educating the very young. She teaches approximately 40 children each day. They are taught using Montessori methods, training in this tactile and interactive methodology being delivered at the training college in Mtwara. Fees to train new teachers are approximately £400 a year and there is a growing demand for teachers in the rural areas.

Fund raising
Michael Hearns successfully completed the 1000 mile trek across northern Spain. He has raised well over £1000 for Mtwaralinks. “It was one of the toughest walks I’ve done to date,” said Mick, “but the money I was raising was a big motivator”. The money will go tobuy maize flour and beans for the elderly.

New rainwater reservoir
The new rainwater reservoir, paid for by Mtwaralinks, holds thousands of gallons of rainwater harvested from the roof of the house built for the Sisters. Two of these tanks hold enough water for washing and food preparation.


Kilidu village thriving
With the construction of a home for the Sisters, a house for the kindergarten teacher and the capping of a new bore hole for fresh water, the villagers of Kilidu can begin to look forward to a more secure future. Since last year, many more acres of land have been ploughed and planted and are now showing the first green shoots. A trainer in agricultural processes now works with villagers to improve their techniques.

Sponsor a student
Mwakibe Kapinga, apprentice electrician at Ndanda VTC, is about to complete his three year course. It costs roughly £400 a year to keep Mwakibe . The money is paid directly to the college account in &US and a monthly allowance paid to Mwakibe in cash to cover his essential spending. We have recently seen Sylvester Mmole start in the vehicle maintenance department and Tamasha Kapinga studying for A Levels at nearby Masasi Girls school. Financial Report
Since May 2015 we have received £7682.47. This comprises predominantly monthly standing orders from supporters. It is supplemented by payments from HMRC for Gift Aid tax rebates, some income from the sale of carvings and occasional windfall donations. Expenditure for the same period totalled £7563.90. As well as grants to the Sisters of the Holy Redeemer, we also pledged our support for a young man to start vocational studies at Ndanda VTC.

Grants to Mtwara and Kilidu were used for the following purposes:

• New educational resources for the kindergarten
• Blood testing equipment
• Agricultural training for villagers
