A presentation ceremony was held recently in the Cross Gates Shopping Centre at which the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Bill Hyde and Mrs Pat Hyde accepted on behalf of their nominated charities a £678.80 cheque donated by generous shoppers over the Christmas period. Two local worthy causes, St Georges Crypt and the Leeds Heartbeat Appeal, were this year's beneficiaries.
Much of the cash was raised in the immediate vicinity of the 'Churches Together in Leeds 15' Crib and represented a significant increase on the previous year, due perhaps not least to the presence on several occasions during the festive season of the Civic Dignitaries rattling both their Chains and Buckets as local choirs led the shopping public in all their favourite carols.
Richard Strudwick expressed warm thanks to Steven Seymour (Centre Manager) and his team for their enthusiastic support and practical help and on behalf of Churches Together added his appreciation to all who had played a part in ensuring the six week event was both a spiritual and material success.
