Connecting Cross Gates Update

My name is Karen Gray and I work 12 hours a week as a Community Development Manager. For a large part of last year I was unwell and unable to work. This brief article for the parish magazine is therefore my first for a while; there will be a longer version next time.
Pop up Hub
We have a number of ongoing initiatives but in this article I will concentrate on the â€˜Pop up Hub'. It was very disappointing to lose our community space (at what was Godsons) 18 months ago, just as we were about to launch the drop in/information point project with a team of community volunteers.
But excitingly, Cross Gates Shopping Centre have recently agreed to provide (at no cost to us) the use of an un-let unit. We may have to move around regularly but the nomadic element seems almost symbolic. We do not have our own home but will â€˜pop up' in different spaces ... this need for partnership grounds it firmly at the heart of the community.
We can re-launch the vision we had for an information/advice point and a safe space for a drop in to share needs. We will recruit and train volunteers to staff the new hub who will be available to offer basic signposting (to other services) and a listening ear ...Some will walk around the centre to chat to shoppers like a community chaplain. We can also use the space to make â€˜Time to Talk' more accessible and to advertise church and community events in the window.
