The Joy Of Laughter
Read 997 Times
Those of you that are regular readers of this newsletter will have realised by now that I have a very keen sense of humour - not always appreciated by everyone I meet and I must admit this sometimes gets me into trouble. One day, I remember some time ago asking Fr Dennis Cassidy who was the parish priest at the time if God had a sense of humour. "That's a funny question to ask," he inquired. I replied "Well you never read in the bible of Jesus sitting down with his disciples, having a glass of wine and a really good laugh, it's always very serious stuff. He looked at me, smiled and said "Yes I'm sure God has a sense of humour, he made you didn't he?" Which I had to admit was a very good reply. So when I read the following little prayer in a magazine, I couldn't help feeling it could be mine.....
A Clowns Prayer.
Lord as I stumble through this life, help me to create more laughter that tears. Dispense more happiness than gloom and spread more cheer than despair.
Never let me be so indifferent, that I will not see the wonder in the eyes of a child or the tremble in the eye of the aged.
Never let me forget that my total effort is to cheer people, to make them happy and forget, at least for a moment, all the unpleasant things in their lives. And Lord, in my final moment, may I hear you say
"When you made my people smile, you made me smile also."
