Don’t Worry About Tomorrow

A television news announcer recently quipped, "Speaking of the economy, if it weren't for all the bad news, there'd be no news at all. Each time we face a downturn we tend to forget we've "Been there and done that" and by God's grace have struggled through it.
Like ancient Israel we anticipate gloom, spread discouragement and join those who gripe about the government and long for "the good old days." So, how does a God who brought water from a rock, manna from the sky and ravens to feed a hungry prophet, expect his people to respond to tough financial times?
The secret is in choosing the right economy, because as a believer you must choose between two economies. The first is the kingdom of God where he rules and reigns, owns all resources and dispenses them generously to meet his people's needs, independent of global economic conditions. The second is the kingdom of this world where men compete selfishly to be number one and to make money out of other people's suffering.
In God's upside down kingdom, the rules are reversed, because he says, "My ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts are higher than your thoughts." In this world's kingdom, the rule is, "Get as much as you can, when you can." If more proof was needed, we only have to look at the actions of greedy bankers, who award themselves millions in bonuses every year, even though the taxpayers are left to bail out the bank when it fails through inept management.
In the Old Testament God told his people, "Choose for yourselves....whom you will serve." So which economy do we all choose? Do we trust in the global economy and hope the politicians will sort everything out for us, or are we wise and put our faith in God's economy.
This is the God who tells us to put our trust in Him and "Don't worry about tomorrow."
