Getting married is one of the biggest decisions we make, finding the right partner for life isn't always easy. I was very fortunate and was happily married for forty years. But not everyone sees marriage in the same way, I once met a lady who told me that she was getting married that week, but she had waited until her two children aged six and eight were old enough to understand what marriage was all about, before getting married.
George and Mary had been happily married for twenty-five years, George worked in a bank and Mary was a Primary school teacher, they had one son at university and lived in a beautiful house in a tree lined avenue. Life seemed to be treating them very well until Mary saw an advertisement in the local paper advertising a "marriage weekend." George wasn't very keen on this idea, but his wife said it would be fun and they would meet other people and might learn something new about themselves. The first day went well, the talks were interesting and sometimes amusing. Then one lecturer declared, "It is essential for a happy marriage that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other." He then addressed the men saying, "For instance, can you name and describe your wife's favourite flower?"
George leaned over and clasped his wife's hand tenderly and whispered, "It's home pride self raising flour, isn't it?"
And thus George began his life of enforced celibacy......
Someone once described marriage as a pack of cards, you begin with two hearts and a diamond, but by the end you are desperate for a club and a spade!
