New School! The new school is beginning to take shape now! The builders have cleared the ground for the works to begin and they have started laying the foundations. The new school is up on the field near Barwick Road just past the Little Rascal's Day Nursery.
The entrance and egress to the school will remain the same and pupils will enter the new school by walking along by where the current Reception and Nursery Classes are and then walking towards the fields. This is a very exciting time for us but we will be very sad to leave the existing building. We are moving from a school of approx. 4000m2 to one that will be 2450m2. This will be a big change.
St. Kevin's Old Boys: I was delighted earlier in November to welcome a group of St. Kevin's Old Boys to visit the school. About 20 former pupils of the original High School came to visit... the coordinator, Michael Stark, came all the way from the United States! We also had lads visit from Cornwall and the Midlands. They were blown away by the school and gave us a donation which I used to buy a pair of acolyte candlesticks for Mass which I thought would be a fitting tribute to their visit.
In Flanders Fields: This year, to mark the centenary of the end of WW1, the children are performing a special Remembrance Play called In Flanders Fields which was written by my wife and I a couple of years ago. Some of you might remember your children taking part last time. It is a very moving play and one that I hope many of you will have been to see. It is VERY important to us that our children and young people do not forget the sacrifice made by the few so that the many could live a life of freedom and prosperity.
Christmas and Advent: It is that time of year again when we will be getting ready for Christmas! We love Advent in school and we will be blessing our Advent Wreaths together and preparing wonderful shows for the children to share with their mums and dads and all those who love them.
Children love this time of the year and we try in our own way to help them understand the Reason for the Season!
Until next time, yours in Christ;
John Hutchinson, Head
