a move to fix Universal Credit to prevent more people going hungry
FEEDBACK
Hello to all who supported the End Hunger petition, contributing by way of signatures which was presented to our Prime Minister, Theresa May. Perhaps not as many as we would've liked but still, in total 18,378 signatures were collected asking her to fix Universal Credit. Thankfully there was a last minute rush; Hannah-May who works at the Trussell Trust, arrived at work on the Monday morning before the hand-in to a HUGE pile of envelopes carrying over 6,000 new signatures!
A group of people who have already experienced the problems associated with Universal Credit either first hand or through working with claimants, dropped it off at 10 Downing Street. Unfortunately the Prime Minister didn't come to accept it from them. (We weren't expecting her to, but it would've been great to have been able to tell her exactly what she needs to do to make Universal Credit fit for purpose!)
There was some great press coverage, including a big piece in the Mirror.
Obviously the battle is not won yet, but we raised lots of awareness and it is this constant pressure and highlighting of the issues that will hopefully lead to real change.
Thank you so very much to everyone who signed the petition, got other people to sign it or who raised awareness of the petition.
