A Very Present Help In Trouble.

Read 774 Times
George Wilson was a 34 year old construction worker and was working on scaffolding, welding the top of a nearly completed water tower. Then the unthinkable happened, as he unhooked his safety harness to reach across for some pipes, a metal cage slipped and crashed into the scaffolding on which he stood. It tipped over and George last his balance and fell 110 feet to the ground. Luckily for him he landed on his back on to a pile of building sand, just missing some rocks and construction debris. Fellow workers called an ambulance and when they arrived, they found George fully conscious but complaining of a sore back. At the hospital doctors were amazed to find very few injuries apart from cuts and bruises and of course his sore back, considering the height he had fallen, he was a very lucky man.

Sometimes in our lives we too resemble George Wilson, God protects us from harm when we fall over 100 feet, yet we are not able to trust him to with the small problems life throws at us and because we are sinful we fail. Being prone to sickness we hurt, being mortal we die, pressure wears us down, anxiety gives us ulcers, people intimidate us and criticism offends us, disease scares us and death haunts us - so what is the answer? The bible tells us this "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Note the words, "very present" because when we hit life's rough spots our tendency is to feel totally abandoned, yet the opposite is true. At that very moment, we are more than ever the object of his love and concern. Even when our vision is blurred, our thinking foggy, our faith fleeting and we can't see him clearly - He is "very present" in our daily lives.

"Do Not Fear, Only Believe."
