The excitement of Christmas and the celebration of a New Year are all past and as we look forward to what the New Year will bring we can't help remembering what happened in the old one. We had terrorist attacks and loss of life in the UK and in most major cities throughout the world. We had that dreadful fire with a great loss of life, we had flooding in many parts of the country, many families will be still grieving over the loss of their loved ones. Yes! it was certainly an eventful year and we hope and pray that this year will be more peaceful for all of us.
A man was in bed asleep with his wife, when there is a loud banging at the front door. He rolls over and looks at his clock and it's half past three in the morning. "I'm not getting out of bed at this time," he thinks and rolls over. The knocking gets even louder, "Aren't you going to answer that?" said his wife, "it may be important, it could even be the police." So the man drags himself out of bed and goes to answer the door, wearing only his boxer shorts. He opens the door to find a man standing on his doorstep and it doesn't take him long to realise the man is drunk."Hi there," slurs the stranger, "Can you give me a push?" "No! it's half past three in the morning, so get lost" shouts the man as he slams the door shut. He goes back upstairs and climbs back into bed. "Who was it?" asked his wife, "It was some drunk asking for a push and I told him to clear off." "Dave, that wasn't very nice of you. Remember that night we broke down in the pouring rain on the way to pick the kids up from the baby sitter and you knocked on that man's door and he helped to get us started." So her husband gets out of bed, gets dressed and goes downstairs again. He opens the door and steps into the street, but can't see anyone, so he shouts, "Hey do you still want a push?" A voice replies, "Yes please, I'm sitting on the swing opposite your house and I'd love a push. The man's reply is not suitable for this magazine, use your imagination.
"Merciful God, you are the peaceful haven to which we run when the storms of life set in;
Please stretch wide your loving arms as the refuge into which we can run."
