At the end of September, some of the Guides went to Kingswood for a Division activity event. This enabled them to meet Brownies and Guides across Leeds, make new friends and enjoy the activities at the centre. It also enabled the leaders to join in with the fun without having to plan any meals or do the washing up. There were plenty of team building games alongside abseiling, archery, night line and making fires. It was a fun-packed weekend with activities all day and entertainment every evening.

The Guides have completed a new badge this term called Friends to Aliens. We made ‘wooliens’ which are aliens made from wool, as well as some edible ones from biscuits. A space ship was also crafted out of numerous boxes and parcel tape. There were space themed games to improve their knowledge of the planets.

As part of their community service we decided to raise money for the poppy appeal.
First of all we made some felt poppies to wear for Remembrance Day and church parade. This tested the girls on their skills of sewing on a button. We all managed in the end and were pleased with the results. A bun sale was organised for our Guide session on a Tuesday evening, when the Brownies and parents were invited. Cakes bought and made by the Guides were sold, raising £72 for the Royal British Legion. A generous amount for selling a few buns. Thank you to all who supported our event.

Last week we did one of our popular penny trails. This entails tossing a coin and deciding if we walk left or right until we reach the next junction. It always seems to take us to the chip shop for a bag of chips to munch on our way back. The Skyliner staff were surprised when the guides turned up requesting 25 bags of chips.

We have just been on our indoor winter camp at Robin Hole near Ilkley. The theme was celebrating 12 months in a weekend. We started with autumn activities, made ghost lollies, glow stick broomsticks and chocolate coated apples. We enjoyed hot dogs for supper during our bonfire themed evening.

On Saturday we made some Easter pom pom chicks, candles for Mother’s day and planted some bulbs for a spring theme.

For the summer they made sand sculptures and also strawberry and chocolate ice cream.

It soon became winter with Christmas crafts of sock snowmen and twig reindeers. Then before you knew it we were celebrating the New Year with games and mocktails.

Some of the older Guides designed a wide game to play outside on Sunday. Two teams... Guides against Leaders. They each had to find various picture cards which had been placed around the site. Each time the teams returned with their picture cards they were given an activity to do.

The activities were based on some of the celebrations in the year; we had to write a Valentine poem, re-enact George killing the dragon and make a fire. These were just some of the activities. It was very cold and snowed at the start of the game but the Leaders managed to finish and win the game without any cheating!

As we look forward to Christmas we will be visiting the Christmas market before enjoying the performance of Cinderella at the Carriageworks.
