Images Of God.

Impersonators have always been a part of the entertainment industry, politicians and heads of state are frequently impersonated, often with great comic effect by such entertainers as Rory Bremner. Then there is Charlie Chaplin’s hilarious depiction of Hitler in the film “The great dictator.” For many years Chaplin was himself imitated, his funny walk, his gestures and comic routines were always a recipe for laughs in concert halls and local theatres. Impersonations are generally performed as comedy acts, but impersonators, doubles and look a-likes have sometimes been used with more serious intent. In recent years Saddam Hussein, who lived in constant fear of assassination, had a number of “doubles” to make it almost impossible for those outside his immediate circle to locate and identify the real Saddam, but his luck ran out when the American armed forces killed the real one in a dramatic raid on his hideout.

We too are also “doubles,” created in God’s image and all called to live our lives as the images of God that we are. The problem we have is that we cannot see God, so we look for God to provide us with an image of himself. This he did by sending his son Jesus Christ, he is the revalation of the Father and for us to grow into the image of God in which we were created and we must live like

Christ and walk in his light. We are all children of God and loved by the Father, but we in turn must love one another, just as he loved us. Christ, the image of God the Father spent himself in love and service, until finally he gave his life for us on the cross.

Jesus said to us, “I am the way the truth and the life: no one comes to the Father, but by me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also.”

“I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show to my fellow creature, then let me do it now.”
