Psalm 23

Read 1381 Times
Tommy was a little six year old boy that his mum loved very much but being a worrier, she was concerned about him walking to school on his own, so she insisted on walking him to school every day. The school was only round the corner from where they lived and there were no roads to cross so it appeared to be quite safe, but she wasn’t convinced. Her son however was having none of this, “I want to be like the “big boys” he protested loudly and go to school with my friends. Things got that bad with continual moaning from her son, that she had no idea how to deal with the situation. Eventually, she asked her neighbour, Mrs Goodness, if she had any ideas on how to handle the situation. Mrs Goodness said, “Not to worry, I will surreptitiously follow your son to school and keep an eye on him, my toddler goes to the same school, so there is no problem.” The next day Mrs Goodness and her little girl Marcy, set out to school following behind Tommy and his friend at a discreet distance for the whole week, without any problems occurring.

The following week as the two boys walked, chatted and kicked stones and twigs on their way to school, Tommy’s little friend noticed that the same lady had been following them every day last week and she was there again behind them today. Finally, he said to Tommy, “Have you noticed that lady that keeps following us, do you know who she is?” Tommy replied nonchalantly, “Yes, I know who she is.” “Well who is she?” asked his friend. “That’s Mrs Goodness and her daughter Marcy,” replied Tommy. “But why is she always following us”? asked his friend. “Well,” said Tommy, “When my mum reads me a story at night, we say our prayers and then she reads from psalm 23 and it says in there, “Shirley Goodness and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life. So I guess we’ll just have to get used to it.”

“The first and simplest emotion which we discover in the human mind, is curiosity.”
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could all remain as curious as a six year old child.”
