The Cubs have had a good year during 2014/2015 with a number of events taking place,
like the sleep over at The Deep in Hull, which quite a few of our Cubs attended and enjoyed greatly, and the last event, the Caving Day, last July just before we broke up for the summer holidays.
The Cubs who enjoyed the caving so much were asking when they were going to do it again, so I have had a word with the district Caving Team Leader to try and arrange a Family Caving Day, where not only the Cubs can go Caving once again but also their parents and siblings can experience the activity. We were hoping for a date later this year but due to other circumstances that is not possible, as the first date available would have possibly made it too wet and too cold and to be honest too dangerous for the young age group involved, so we are now looking hopefully for spring next year.
Talking of next year, many of you may not realise this but it is the Cub Scouts Centenary Year, with loads of things planned for All Cubs throughout the year. A couple of things already in the pipeline are the Sleep Over at The National Space Centre (April) where already 1,400 Cubs have indicated their interest in taking part. Also planned is an activity weekend at Hesley Wood in Sheffield (July) where the weekend will be taken up by a vast array of activities such as Archery, Wall Climbing, Carting, and lots more to keep everyone busy the whole time they are there.
Later in 2016, as part of the Centenary Year, there is to be a renewal of Promise Party where All Cubs Around the World will hold a party at around about the same time (If possible) to celebrate their promise renewal.
The Cubs I'm sure will be very excited about this once in a lifetime opportunity to help celebrate the 100 years of Cub Scouts during 2016.
So that said, if you have a son, daughter, niece or nephew, even a grandson or granddaughter who would like to join in with these centenary celebrations, then come on down to any of our meetings held on a Monday evening from 6:30pm to 8pm and speak to any Leader / Young Leader, who will be happy to talk with you.
Yours in Scouting
Kevin, Clare Gairn (Arkela, Baloo)
