St. Gregory’s Altar Servers

A RobeIn 2014, we were blessed to have Emilia, Itoro, Ivana and Kayleigh join our band of merry servers. Thanks to Isong and Lucy, our senior Altar Servers, who helped them learn the basics of serving. We also introduced a training and reference manual for use by the servers and their parents.

In 2015, junior servers will have the opportunity to move to intermediate level by being trained on the Eucharist bells, crucifer role, training new servers and serving at the first Holy Communion service. They will also have the opportunity attain the wooden cross as a symbol of their commitment by December 2015, subject to attendance and maturity.

Senior servers, will have the opportunity to be trained and serve at special services such as funerals, stations of the cross, Holy Thursday, Easter Vigil, Confirmation, etc. They will also be enrolled for entry into St Stephen’s Guild.

Socially, we plan to have at least one social or training session each quarter of 2015, the idea is that this will help create a community among the servers while brushing up on procedures.

On Saturday, 21 February 2015, to thank them for their hard work, our Altar Servers were treated to a 'Mass and Day Out' which started off with Mass and a tour of the Cathedral followed by bowling and a light lunch at Nandos. It was a fun day for everyone including the parents who were able to join in with some brilliant bowling skills displayed and even a few strikes. The girls’ team won!

Planned for this summer is a trip to Alton Towers. We pray it will be a hot and sunny day with lots of opportunities to enjoy all the rides – no matter how scary or wet!

With so much planned for 2015, as always the prayer and support of the parish is required and much appreciated.
