How will you show your support?

Fairtrade Fortnight begins this month on the 24th February, and as a founding member of the Fairtrade Foundation, CAFOD is asking you and our parish to get involved. You are being set a challenge to “stick with Foncho to make bananas fair”.

Albeiro Alfonso “Foncho“ Cantillo is a small-scale banana farmer from Columbia who sells mostly Fairtrade produce. This means he can afford to care for his family and give his daughter a good education. By sticking with Foncho, you are being asked to buy only Fairtrade bananas and to call on the UK government to help end unfair pricing by supermarkets.

Taking up the challenge is also a great way to support our Hungry for change campaign.

Not only is buying Fairtrade a fantastic way for you to play your part in building a fairer food system for all, but you will be encouraging greater support for small-scale farmers like Foncho as well as ensuring large supermarkets give growers a fair return for their produce.

Remember to support your local Fairtrade supermarkets.
