Blessed John Henry Newman Parish Bereavement Team

Read 1621 Times
In November last year, the names of over one hundred people were read out at the memorial masses held in each of the churches, to pray for those who had died during the previous twelve months.

Some weeks, there may be as many as 4 or 5 funeral masses or services. At a time of bereavement the family need personal support, as well as help in preparing for the funeral. It is also important that the bereaved families are contacted as soon as possible after the death of their family member.
In order to assist the priests of the parish in this work, a Parish Bereavement Team has been formed. The priest who will be presiding at the funeral will visit the family as soon as they can. In the meantime, one of the bereavement team will also make contact with the family. They will offer condolences on behalf of the parish and, if the family wish, arrange a visit before the funeral to offer help and support in the planning of the funeral Mass or service. This will always be done in co-ordination with the priest.
In the weeks following the funeral, a member of the team will make follow-up visits to the bereaved family to offer support and prayers on behalf of the parish.

The Bereavement Team members are: Sr. Anne-Marie, Sr. Nora, Patrick McGreavy, Alan Robinson and Sheelagh Pickles.
