I am the light of the world, says the Lord
Anyone who follows me
Will have the light of life
When a child is baptised the parents are given a candle and the priest says ‘receive the light of Christ. Dear parents and godparents this light is entrusted to you to be kept burning brightly, this child of yours has been enlightened by Christ she /he is to walk always as a child of the light’ The same can be said for all of us who were baptised.
Today in the Gospel Acclamation we hear again ‘I am the light of the world’ It is like a reminder of the gift we were given in baptism. It is like someone checking have we used the light. This light is for guidance and inspiration. Coming up to Lent is a great time to use this light. Lent is a time, not just for looking, but for making new decisions for the future.
So find your favourite chair and allow yourself to relax. Visualise Christ calling you in the distance, he is trying to show people walking in darkness full of confusion. They are making ad hock decisions and even inventing their own kind of light. Everything seems so confusing to them and frustrations abound. Had they used the light of Christ things would be simpler because his light is not just a light but his love and mercy.
Stay for awhile in that peace and relaxation and allow Christ into your future.
